Minor Surgery FAQs

  • Typically, we can offer any surgery that does not involve general anaesthesia or respiratory assistance during the surgical procedure. Minor Surgery procedures can include:

    • Skin tags

    • Skin cysts

    • Incision and drainage of an abscess

    • Warts treatment

    • Lesion removal

    • Biopsy of growths

    • Verrucae treatment

    • Toenail removal

  • The initial doctor’s assessment is €60 euro. In addition, typical Minor Surgery procedures cost from €120 to €450 euro. At the review the doctor will get a better understanding of what’s involved and will price the surgical procedure based on the time and complexity involved.

  • Minor surgery is carried out on an out-patient basis at our MedHub Clinic, on Union Quay, Cork City. We have a specialist minor surgery room set up where the procedures can take place.

  • Prior to any minor surgery the doctor will conduct an initial consult to confirm a diagnosis and a plan for the procedure and gain informed consent. During the surgery, often a local anaesthetic is administered, after this the procedure is pain free. The length of time it takes for your surgery depends on the condition being treated and can range from 10 minutes to a half hour or more. Your doctor will also advise if more visits are required to treat your condition.

After minor surgery, if you have a wound, your doctor will give you instructions on how to keep it clean and free of infection until it has healed. You might also need to take antibiotics to prevent infection and medicine to manage any pain. After minor surgery you might feel a little faint or uncomfortable and you might need someone to take you home. If you need to have stitches removed, you can make a follow up appointment. For some procedures a tissue sample for histology can be sent to a laboratory for analysis. Your doctor will follow up with the results if there is anything abnormal.

  • Depending on your cover you may be entitled to claim all or a portion of the fee directly back from your health insurance. You can ask what insurance cover you have directly with your insurer. If you are a taxpayer, any amount not covered by your insurance may be eligible for a partial tax refund. You can find out more on revenue.ie

Note: MedHub Ltd. does not have a direct agreement with any insurance company, so any claims are between the insurance company and the patient.

  • Our doctor must see all patients prior to their minor surgery to review the issue, confirm the diagnosis and assess suitability for the procedure. Sometimes an initial course of treatment before progressing to surgery could be more suitable.
